Nashville, Tenn. In observance of World Photography Day on August 19, United Methodist Communications has gathered a variety of photographic resources at UMCom.org/photography to help local churches tell their stories through compelling imagery.

United Methodist Communications works to equip churches with tools to communicate effectively – including using photography to engage their audiences. Resources available through the website include a searchable media library of downloadable images, a training course on Capturing Better Smartphone Photos, a video tutorial on making photo slideshows and a variety of articles that provide tips for taking better pictures.

The website will also feature an interview with United Methodist News’ award-winning photojournalist Mike DuBose, who shares stories, tips and examples to help viewers improve their own picture-taking skills. A video of DuBose’s photography, Every Photo Tells a Story, shares inspirational images from across the United Methodist connection which can be utilized on social media.

The site also showcases some of the best of United Methodist News’ photography and photo essays such as Water is Life.

World Photography Day is an annual celebration of the art, craft, science, and history of photography. United Methodist Communications uses photos to inform, encourage, motivate and engage followers of Christ--and resources churches to do the same. These efforts require financial support. In observance of the date, gifts can be made to support the ministries of United Methodist Communications through their foundation at ResourceUMC.org/GiveUMCom.
