The United Methodist Church has many denomination-wide ministries and entities that assist it in its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. These include the three governing bodies of The UMC: General Conference, the Council of Bishops and the Judicial Council. Other churchwide entities include the Connectional Table, the general agencies and our racial and ethnic ministry plans. These churchwide ministries embody our principles of connectionalism, diversity and accountability.

The United Methodist General Conference will be held April 23 – May 3, 2024, at Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Vertical logo (3x2) updated 5/2023.

All bishops, both active and retired, are members of the Council of Bishops, which collectively is charged with the general oversight and promotion of the temporal and spiritual interests of the entire Church.

Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church

As the denomination’s highest judicial body or "court," the Judicial Council's nine members, made up of laity and clergy, are elected by the General Conference and normally meet twice a year to consider whether actions of the various church bodies adhere to the constitution and follow the rules outlined in the Book of Discipline.
