United Methodist Communications Releases 2021 Annual Report

Nashville, Tenn.: United Methodist Communications today released its 2021 Annual Report highlighting the agency’s communications initiatives and activities on behalf of The United Methodist Church around the world.

“In 2021, we continued to move forward to stay relevant in an ever-changing world,” said chief agency executive Dan Krause. “As church leaders continued adjusting to ministry in digital spaces, we launched the Pastoring in the Digital Parish podcast, and new training avenues to help leaders adapt. We took a lighthearted approach in our advertising to invite newcomers to engage with our churches and found a new audience on TikTok. #BeUMC resources for church members celebrated our identity as United Methodists and called us to live out our values. Globally, we continued to build communication infrastructure, including texting and radio support.”

These numbers highlight some of the agency’s accomplishments in 2021:

  • 14.6 million web page views
  • 1.67 million social media followers
  • 1,900+ local churches served
  • 2,000 church leaders trained
  • 459 million advertising impressions
  • 289,000 newsletter subscribers
  • 900,000 messages sent/received through UMConnect
  • 33% increase in Special Sunday giving
  • 400% increase in online chat sessions
