The United Methodist Women’s 2021 Prayer Calendar, a joint publication of United Methodist Women and Global Ministries, is available through the Mission Resource Center for $14. The focus of this 12-month calendar is “Together in Christ Through Prayer.” As this time of social distancing has kept so many of us physically apart, prayer can bring us together, uniting us and returning us into a love-centered relationship with Christ and each other.
The Prayer Calendar is a planning and spiritual growth tool, inviting readers to pray and connect to others. It contains three main sections: Prayers from Around the World; calendar; and directories for mission personnel, including United Methodist Women and Global Ministries staff; deaconesses and home missioners, and National Mission Institutions. The calendar is illustrated with children’s artwork from national and international partners in mission of United Methodist Women and Global Ministries.
The beginning pages of the Prayer Calendar contain a collection of Prayers from Around the World. These prayers from active missionaries, deaconesses and deacons as well as National Mission Institution Partners, gives readers a wealth of resources to pray their way through the year to come.
The calendar section is organized weekly and includes holidays, allowing space to plan and organize one’s schedule. Each week also includes daily lectionary readings, a Mission Witness from someone in mission, a daily Mission Focus and birthdays of mission staff and mission personnel to help guide you in your prayers for the work of United Methodist Women and the people who help carry it out. Each month begins with a monthly prayer highlighting ways to pray for mission around the world.
The final section includes directories of Mission Personnel, including the names, addresses and birthdays of missionaries affiliated with United Methodist Women and the General Board of Global Ministries. There are also directories listing current staff and retired mission personnel as well as a list memorializing those recently deceased. Scholarship recipient recognition and directories for Places of Service and National Mission Institutions are also included.
