A MOMENT FOR MISSION

"Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples." – Psalm 96:3, NRSV

The beauty of being a part of the global United Methodist Church is gaining a deeper understanding of what it means to witness to the glory of God among the nations. Africa University in Zimbabwe is proof. Supported globally by The United Methodist Church, the university is committed to remaining Pan-African. Men and women from more than 20 African countries come to receive postsecondary education and postgraduate degrees, in agriculture, management and administration, theology, peace and governance and more.

Africa University is the only General Conference-approved, degree-granting institution of higher education supported by The United Methodist Church on the continent of Africa. The university opened in 1992, thanks to the vision and passion of United Methodist bishops and the support of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Board of Global Ministries.

Today our gifts to the Africa University Fund help provide a quality education to nearly 1,500 students. That is growth! Africa University opened with 40 students and now has more than 6,000 graduates to date.

Most students receive financial assistance to complete their studies. Our apportioned giving helps this vital and growing ministry. Africa University is an important vehicle for the self-development of its students, as most secure employment upon graduation. Many go on to high- and mid-level positions. The education that Africa University students receives helps individual students and enriches the continent's economic development.
