BISHOP CYNTHIA FIERRO HARVEY NAMED ARCHIVES & HISTORY PRESIDENT
History-Making Bishop Takes New Role, Effective Immediately

Madison, N.J. – The Rev. Cynthia Fierro Harvey, Bishop of the Louisiana Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church and immediate past president of the denomination’s Council of Bishops, has been named president of the General Commission on Archives & History (GCAH).

“We are thrilled that Bishop Harvey is our new President at Archives & History. She has long been a change maker within the denomination with a ministry that made history when she was elected as the first Hispanic woman and first woman of color to serve as COB president,” says Dr. Ashley Boggan, GCAH’s chief executive. “Bishop Harvey’s deep love of The UMC and its journey through the centuries has prepared her to lead our agency into the future.”

Bishop Harvey’s new role is effective immediately.

“I am honored to serve as the president of the General Commission on Archives & History,” Bishop Harvey says. “While the work of the GCAH has always been an important part of our life and work, today, the leadership of Dr. Boggan and her team is more critical than ever as we study and explore our Methodist history as we shape our future history.

“I am excited to serve in this role and connect our past to our future.”
