GCSRW names Lassiat as Director of Resource Development and Training

Chicago, Ill. – The General Commission on the Status and Role of Women (GCSRW) is pleased to announce that effective September 1, the Rev. Meg Lassiat has joined their team as the Director of Resource Development and Training.

In her role, Lassiat will identify, guide and direct the technical creation and coordination of resources and trainings that support the formation of principled Christian leaders who “challenge The UMC to a continuing commitment to the full and equal responsibility and participation of women in the total life and mission of the Church, sharing fully in the power and the policy-making at all levels of the Church’s life” (BOD 2102). She will link programming in Leadership Development and Sexual Ethics with the emerging needs of constituents to the mandates and missional priorities of GCSRW in the life of The United Methodist Church for the transformation of the world.

“Meg brings extensive experience in the field of training and resource development, as well as general church knowledge,” notes Dawn Wiggins Hare, General Secretary for the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women. "We are thrilled to have Meg joining the GCSRW team in an official capacity.  With her outstanding array of gifts and talent, we are confident that together we’ll lift our ministry to new heights and increase our capacity for programming."

“I find great satisfaction in working with teams to imagine, dream, build and grow in ways that make a difference in the lives of others. I am honored and excited to be appointed to the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women,” says Lassiat.

Meg Lassiat, most recently served as the Assistant General Secretary for Ordained Ministry at the General Board of Higher Education (GBHEM). She is an ordained deacon and member of the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church. Lassiat also currently serves as the founder and president of Church Systems Consulting, LLC working with annual conferences across the country in strategic planning and leadership development. She is a graduate of the Candler School of Theology.

Lassiat had previously partnered with GCSRW in the creation of the Do No More Harm resource for United Methodists in responding to sexual misconduct.

Lassiat says, “The commission’s role in the denomination is critical to the future ministry of The United Methodist Church and I look forward to working with the staff and board of directors in furthering its mission.”
