General Conference volunteers sought for marshal and page positions

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – United Methodists interested in serving as marshals or pages for the postponed General Conference of The United Methodist Church taking place April 23-May 3, 2024, at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C., are encouraged to apply online no later than April 15.

“Volunteers were originally selected and confirmed to serve in Minneapolis, but with the postponements, some are not able to serve in Charlotte,” notes Mark Wharff, who serves alongside his wife Laura as the Pages and Marshals Team Coordinators. “We are seeking volunteers to bolster the ranks to most effectively serve the General Conference.”

The team aims to hit their combined target of 180 volunteers between the two positions.

Marshals manage the visitor and reserved seating areas and ensure that only authorized individuals access certain conference sections, among other responsibilities. Pages assist delegates, bishops and key participants, distribute materials and convey information throughout the event. The positions are volunteer only, will not receive compensation and are responsible for personal expenses incurred at or traveling to General Conference.

Interested individuals should submit an online application before the deadline.

Though preference will be given to applicants who can serve throughout the entire conference, partial-time volunteers will also be considered for participation.

If you have additional questions, contact Mark Wharff at [email protected].
