GENERAL COMMISSION ON ARCHIVES AND HISTORY WELCOMES NEW DIGITAL ARCHIVIST
Kevin Dusenberry joins staff
Madison, N.J. –Kevin Dusenberry has joined the staff of the General Commission on Archives and History as digital archivist. The new hire signals a move toward strategic digitalization of The United Methodist Church agency’s extensive collection.
“Adding a digital archivist to our team furthers our goals of not only better preserving our data and documents but also ensuring the history is accessible to as many people as possible,” says Dr. Ashley Boggan D., GCAH’s general secretary. “History must be our guide for the future and we have to do everything we can so that our past is not only remembered but remembered accurately and used as a resource.”
In his role, Dusenberry will manage the agency’s data and documents in digital spaces.
Dusenberry, a lifelong United Methodist and member at Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church, received his undergraduate degree from Emerson College in Film Production. In May, he will graduate from Simmons University with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Archives Management. Previously, Dusenberry worked for CBS News Archives as an archives digitizer.
"I’m absolutely blown away by the size and scope of the agency’s collections in general,” Dusenberry remarks. “There are so many different types of documents, not just paper, but a big collection of film, photos and artifacts. The collection really does cover the entire gamut of Methodist history.
“Making our records and our history more accessible is what archives is about," he says. "Digital spaces offer the perfect opportunity to do just that.”
