Branding is an important component of all ministries, including local churches.

First United Methodist Church in Osage City, Kansas understood this and recently contacted the Local Church Services team seeking branding assistance. The need: a quick turn-around church logo for use in celebrating their 150th anniversary.

After consultation with creative design specialist Melanie Mays, it was determined that two logos were required. One logo would tout their years in ministry, whereas the other would be a tweaked evergreen version for use after the celebration.

In collaboration with the Creative Strategy team's creative strategy manager Troy Dossett, and considering the short timeframe, they created a Logo Vault. This is a large selection of pre-designed logos that can be customized with colors and verbiage to create a unique visual voice for a church. It expedites the client selection and approval process, while streamlining things for the designers. As anticipated, it was the right tool for the project.

The final mark represents the growth of their church and roots in the community using a modern, two-dimensional approach. For the anniversary version, they created a simple, organic box for their ministry history text, placed in a way to represent grounding and stability.

Ultimately, the church was presented with a package that included versions of both finalized logos in file types appropriate for print and web, a logo usage guide, MissionInsite analytic report and tailored how-to resources.

The church was so proud of our agency’s work that their pastor Libby Oberdorf even noted that they’re “hoping to get someone to paint a barn quilt square of the logo.”
